About Cathleen V. Carr, JD, PhD

Cathleen Vaune Carr, Attorney, author, mother, was born in Cleveland, Ohio September 21, 8:12am, the youngest of Charles V. Carr and Hortense L. Carr’s five children. She received her primary education at The Cleveland Music School Settlement, Laurel School and Villa Maria High School . Secondary education includes bachelor’s degree, magna cum laude from Howard University , two Masters degrees: one in Pastoral Counseling and the other in Metaphysical Science- Sound Therapy from The University of Metaphysics, and a Juris Doctorate degree from Case Western Reserve University and a PhD from the University of  Sedona .

ARTS

Cathleen Carr studied classical piano for 12 years under the tutelage of Mrs. Palmer, mother of first African American international concert pianist, Natalie Honduras and performed in several recitals at the Cleveland Institute of Music prior to the age of 15. Due to extraordinary domestic demands she was unable to complete a Master of Fine Arts degree at Kent State University , despite this disappointment she continues to indulge and practice multiple artistic mediums  and is a member of the American Craft Council. At one time, Cathleen V Carr had one of the largest personal collections of gemstone and art beads in the country.

TRAVEL

Cathleen V Carr often said that she was blessed to have benefited from exposure to other cultures, languages and peoples during numerous trips to Europe, Isreal, the Caribbean, Canada , Mexico , and Central America . Her father encouraged the children to study Spanish and visit Spanish speaking countries so Cathleen lived in Mexico for three months and Nicaragua , El Salvador and Guatemala for another three months perfecting her language skills and studying Mayan art, the civilization and art education. Cathleen was locally well traveled having visited 32 of the 50 states, as well. She said her father taught his children that traveling was an excellent form of education and enables one to have more appreciation for one’s own home.

INTERESTS

Cathleen V Carr was a blue ribbon equestrian having learned how to train and care for horses on the family’s horse farm in Geauga County, Ohio . On ‘the farm’, as the family always referred to the 32 acre estate, Cathleen also learned to garden and developed a lifelong appreciation and respect for the environment. Her preference for an urban lifestyle resulted in learning how to grow beautiful floral arrangements and herbs in pots. She said gardening was her favorite form of relaxation.

Cathleen V Carr authored several scholarly papers: An Analysis of Carter G. Woodson’s, The Miseducation of the Negro;  On the 90th Birthday of A. Philip Randolph; Minister Louis Farrakhan: The Persuasive Speaker; Sound! A Tool for Spiritual Advancement and Physical Healing; The Culture and Cosmology of Ancient Greece; Mysticism; The Jewish Law of Divorce and Marital Property Settlement ; The History, Discussion and Statistical Review of the Effects of Pleading Insanity in Criminal Trials; Personal, Estate and Gift Tax Implications of Organ Transfers.  She compiled the original biography of her father, Charles V. Carr, and participated in the development of the screenplay based upon his life, And He Walked with Kings.

HONORS

Cathleen V Carr was nominated for a Federal Bankruptcy  Judgeship  in the Sixth Circuit Judicial Council in 1993.

VOLUNTEER

Prior to becoming a mother Cathleen V Carr logged thousands of hours as an avid volunteer working with numerous mental health agencies, homeless and battered women shelters, The Ohio Historical Society, Legal Council for the Elderly, the Cameron Museum of Art and the International Policy Institute.  She belonged to several civic, professional and business organizations often holding various leadership posts.

FAMILY

Cathleen V Carr was the fifth lawyer in her family and inherited a lifelong interest in politics and government from her father, Charles V. Carr, who enjoyed a highly distinguished career as an Attorney and politician, having been responsible for the first desegregation legislation in the United States in the 1940′s.

Despite her many accomplishments, she always maintains that her true pride and joy in life is her daughter and only child, Sydney Carr Russell.
